DESIGN ELEMENT/ INSPIRATION
As I'm inspired by Daniel Gao's sculptures when he was experiencing similar situation. I feel it so relatable and expressive of how he translated his emotions.
His artwork inspired me to create an intense and strong piece of garment to be able to let other people relate to. Especially myself. I wanted to find a way to express it, find myself an outlet as well.

My textile manipulation plays a huge part as the material matter the most for the sculpture as well. I love these textures, pop out and holes on the "skin". It represents his dark emotion very well. Therefore, I decided to create pop outs and strongly textured fabrics for my project.

At the same time, I wanted to show the weakness and the vulnerability part of my feeling back then. So I have used soft and sheer fabric as well.

MANIPULATION
STRESSING FABRIC -- Melt the fabric yarns to let it shrink and stress together to create holes and crumple texture.
I've ran through the mesh fabric under a heating/drying machine with high temperature. Only works with synthetic fabric. The heat will stress the fabric and melt it together. I tried with layers as well. As 1 layer of mesh is very thin, and it always melts and leave big holes. So best is melting 2 layer of mesh together to create enough coverage yet dramatic effect and texture.
More embellishments and materials added to emphasis on the pop outs and holes. The wire grid and the yarns are to translate the difficulties of finding an outlet to let it go and how everything is a struggle and a mess. After all, the key message is the emptiness and the mix of dark emotions. Also, the weak and vulnerable side.
