Process

Mainly inspired by Snow White's vibrant and grand gowns in the movie.

I want to achieve a dramatic dress shape by using the new techniques. And the huge bow tie at the back of the dress is one of the key look as well. So I tried my way of making it, and exaggerate it with the long ribbon touching the ground. I keep the hood idea too.

Therefore, my gown is a 2 piece gown with stiff and dramatic shaped dress and a hood with huge bow tie at the back, ensures it still looks princess-y.

Toile Making

The new technique used is called: subtraction cutting. It is a free form dress making method. But I managed to explore it and discover a way of making stiff shape by using this technique. So I applied it to my dress bottom. I have created 8 pointy "pop-outs" for the bottom to achieve the dramatic shape and volume of the dress.

Brocade has been widely used in the Mirror Mirror movie as well, it offer the princess vibe and the fairy tale feeling. So I will be using some pastel brocade to make the dress more interesting and colourful. Another fabric I am using is Dutches Satin, the stiffness of the gown can be ensured with this fabric. And some part I decided to interface to ensure the shape and volume as well.
